An inmate who escaped from a New Orleans jail has been recaptured, leaving just one still at large.
Louisiana State Police announced on Facebook that Antoine Massey was recaptured on Friday after escaping from the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility in May.
Massey is the ninth escapee to be recaptured out of 10.

“Antoine Massey has finally been recaptured in the Hollygrove area of New Orleans,” said Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. “He will now face additional charges for his role in the escape, and I’ll ensure that he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Great work by all our law enforcement partners who have been working so hard for this outcome. One more to go!”
Sheriff Susan Hutson noted that there is evidence that the breakout that occurred on May 16th was aided from within the facility — leading to three employees being suspended as a result of an internal inquiry.
Hutson continued, explaining that the officer assigned to the escapees’ housing unit had left, though she did not detail whether she believed he was “in on the plan,” to go pick up some food. During that time, the locked up offenders quickly unlocked a cell door, took a toilet from the wall, entered the recreation yard, climbed a fence, and crossed the highway.
Derrick Groves, convicted of killing two people and shooting two others on Mardi Gras Day in 2018, is still on the run.
