U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been moved from her private residence to secure housing on a guarded military base in the Washington, D.C., area, according to a recent report from The New York Times.

Bondi was reportedly moved to a guarded base in the D.C. area after receiving threats from a number of foreign drug cartels, among others, in addition to her handling of the files pertaining to the late convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Sources familiar with the matter told the outlet on Wednesday that Bondi was relocated from her D.C. apartment last month after federal officials uncovered ongoing threats against her amid the Trump administration’s capture of former Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro in January.

Bondi has been a vocal proponent of designating cartels as terrorist organizations and pursuing aggressive prosecution.

Meanwhile, reports also indicate that several high-ranking members of the administration have similarly relocated to housing on military bases in the D.C. area due to heightened security threats and protests at their private residences.

Current Housing Status

  • Stephen Miller – Deputy White House Chief of Staff: He and his family remain in military housing in D.C. after selling their Arlington home in late 2025. He is reportedly living on a base to shield his family from “organized campaigns of vilification.”
  • Marco Rubio – Secretary of State: He is currently residing at Fort McNair on “General’s Row.” His move was prompted by both domestic protests and specific foreign threats linked to his role in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
  • Pete Hegseth – Secretary of War: Also resides at Fort McNair. As the face of Operation Epic Fury, his security requirements are among the highest in the Cabinet.

Nonetheless, Bondi’s exact location was not publicly disclosed. Additionally, senior U.S. officials relocating to military bases for protection against domestic or foreign threats is not a new practice.

During President Donald Trump’s first term, both then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and then-Defense Secretary James Mattis moved to secure military installations. This follows a precedent set during the George W. Bush administration, when then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates resided in naval housing near Washington, D.C., to ensure his safety.

The report clarified that while the physical move to a military base was primarily triggered by “credible threats” from international drug cartels, specifically following the capture of Maduro and Bondi’s push to designate major cartels as terrorist organizations, the move was also influenced by an “atmosphere of extreme hostility” surrounding the Epstein files.
