UPDATE: 9:41 PM: The mugshot of golfer Tiger Woods has been released, hours after the star athlete was involved in a rollover crash in Florida.
The photo, taken Friday at the Martin County Jail, shows Woods with bloodshot eyes as he faces the camera.
UPDATE: 3:07 PM: Martin County Sheriff gave details during a press conference about the car crash involving Tiger Woods, revealing that the golfer has been arrested.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek stated there were no injuries from the wreck involving the Land Rover driven by Woods and a pressure-washing vehicle. However, Woods crawled out his passenger side window after the collision.
Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) evaluated him at the scene and found that the legendary golfer displayed signs of impairment. Budensiek noted that while Woods took a breathalyzer test, which revealed he wasn’t intoxicated by alcohol, he refused to take a urine test. DRE officers speculate that he was under the influence of medication or drugs.
The sheriff described Woods as being cooperative, but was careful with his words so as not to “incriminate” himself.
Budensiek announced the golfer is being charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI), property damage and refusal to submit to the urine test. Woods will remain in jail for at least eight hours, as is required by law for a DUI charge,
The crash took place on a two-lane road with a 30 mph speed limit, Budensiek said, indicating Woods was driving much faster.
Commenting on news of the wreck, President Donald Trump referred to Woods as “a close friend.”
“There was an accident, and that’s all I know,” Trump said. “A very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, an amazing man.”
Woods is reported to be dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son.
1:20 PM: Golf superstar Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, officials said. The accident occurred on Friday just after 2 p.m. local time.
According to a statement by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, provided by NBC News, the accident is currently under investigation.
The sheriff’s office is expected to hold a press conference at 5 p.m. ET, where officials will provide additional updates.
No details regarding the cause of the crash or Woods’ condition has been released.
In February 2021, Woods was involved in a crash just outside Los Angeles, California. His SUV rolled multiple times, leaving him trapped inside the vehicle. The crash caused significant injuries to his lower right leg, including open fractures that required emergency surgery. During the procedure, doctors inserted a rod into his tibia and placed screws and pins in his foot and ankle.
