Early Thursday, an earthquake rattled the California Bay Area, centered just outside Boulder Creek. The tremor was felt across the region, including in San Francisco.
Occurring at 1:41 AM local time, the quake had a magnitude of 4.6 and occurred at a depth of just over 10 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The San Francisco Chronicle reported that alerts went out to numerous phones.
The shaking reportedly woke people up, but there have been no reports of major damage. According to the USGS, there is a 16% probability of an aftershock of 3.0 magnitude or above occurring in the next week.
