JERUSALEM, Israel – As Israel’s 7-front war extends into its 21st month, JNS (Jewish News Syndicate) has dramatically increased its visibility both in the U.S. and in Israel, where the organization held its first International Policy Summit earlier this spring.
We sat down with Jonathan Tobin, JNS editor-in-chief, to get his views on the state of journalism today and the nature of a global conflict that inevitably seems to return to Israel as the central battleground.
Tobin told us, “People are tired of what the corporate mainstream media are slinging to them. They know they’re not getting the whole truth. We’re part of this movement to create a new journalism that is based on the verities of old journalism. You know, the the idea of getting to the truth – of trying to tell the whole story.
Tobin is well aware of, and has written extensively on, the astounding rise in anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiments around the world, yet he cautioned, “It’s not culture war stuff. It is a war on our entire culture. It’s a war on the West. What’s happening to the Jews is the canary in the coal mine because it’s a small part of it.”
