Former Vice President Mike Pence praised President Donald Trump for resuming military aid to Ukraine after Trump recently stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t want peace.”

Pence’s praise followed after President Trump revealed that the United States will now continue sending weapons to Ukraine as their war with Russia rages on.

“Defensive weapons, primarily, but they’re getting hit very, very hard. So many people are dying in that mess,” Trump recently stated. “We’re going to send some more weapons.”

“We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves,” Trump added. “They’re getting hit very hard now.”

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed Trump’s announcement, stating: “At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops.”

“Our framework for POTUS to evaluate military shipments across the globe remains in effect and is integral to our America First defense priorities,” he added.

The pause in military aid of certain defense missiles and ammunition to Ukraine was reportedly due to concerns that U.S. military stockpiles were being depleted as a result.

In response to the continuation of weapons shipments, Pence shared his praises for Trump, stating: “While I had concerns and expressed them in those first 100 days about the president’s kind of ongoing hope and desire for a negotiated settlement, I welcome his decisions this week and his rhetoric.”

“My hope is that the president is starting to recognize Vladimir Putin doesn’t want peace,” Pence continued. “Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine.”

“I do believe the time has come for us to renew our military support for Ukraine, make it clear that we’re going to continue to provide that support, along with our European allies, until a just and lasting peace is achieved,” he added.

Additionally, Pence also praised Trump for attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities last month.

“I think what may have changed is that some of the isolationist voices in and around this administration have recently condemned the president’s correct and courageous decision to launch a military assault against Iran,” Pence stated. “I think they may have lost some of their footing with the president.”

Skeptics and the Libertarian non-interventionists in the MAGA coalition have argued that Trump’s decision to continue foreign aid for Israel and Ukraine fly in the face of the “America First” position, arguing that the United States is currently crippled with over $37 trillion in debt, and foreign conflicts thousands of miles away should not be of U.S. concern.
