Fire and Ice: Immigration Agency Ramps Up Raids Despite Pushback

From child labor to violent protesters and doxxing attacks.

President Donald Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown is getting results – but it’s leading to increased clashes between the administration and detractors as well. From violent assaults to doxxing attacks and even judicial interference, Immigration and Customs Enforcement – ICE – is feeling the heat.

Judge Tells ICE to Cool It

US District Court Judge Maame E. Frimpong of the Central District of California issued an order Friday, July 11, directing ICE agents to stop “racially profiling” people in search of immigrants. ICE has ramped up raids in and around Los Angeles over the last two months, which led to this lawsuit filed last week by immigrant advocacy groups. A full hearing is still expected, but Judge Frimpong took the agency to task for its tactics in the initial ruling. The Biden-appointed judge said “roving patrols” without reasonable suspicion violated the Fourth Amendment – and that denying detainees access to attorneys violated the Fifth.

“What the federal government would have this Court believe – in the face of a mountain of evidence presented in this case – is that none of this is actually happening,” she wrote.

The ruling is temporary – just a ten-day ban on what some called random roundups of Hispanic-looking people.

Children and Forced Labor in the Cannabis Fields

A day before the court order, ICE raided two properties of Glass House Farms – a state-licensed cannabis operation – north of Los Angeles, in Camarillo and Carpinteria. The feds were reportedly serving a warrant for illegal employees. The Department of Homeland Security announced that 200 arrests were made across the dual operations – many illegal aliens, and protesters who turned violent during the raids.

Among the dozens of illegals discovered, two were in a trailer padlocked from the outside as well as the inside, suggesting that at least some of the workers were there against their will. Ten undocumented juveniles were found as well, triggering a child labor investigation.

“Yesterday, Glass House Brands received immigration and naturalization warrants,” the company said in a statement Friday. “As per the law, we verified that the warrants were valid and we complied. Workers were detained and we are assisting to provide them legal representation. Glass House has never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and has never employed minors. We do not expect this to affect operations moving forward. We will provide additional details when applicable.”

Attacks, Physical and Otherwise

The raids on Glass House Farms lasted for hours and attracted hundreds of protesters – some of whom were seen throwing rocks at agents and their vehicles as they left. One even allegedly opened fire on ICE agents, and the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the shooter’s identification and conviction.

It isn’t just in the Golden State, however, that ICE agents are facing assaults on the job. More than 70 illegals – some with warrants, prior DUIs, or previous deportations – were arrested during a raid on a meat-producing plant in Omaha, Nebraska. Here, as well, agents faced violent protesters – including one illegal immigrant who brandished a firearm and attacked law enforcement.

On Independence Day, two unarmed ICE agents and a local police officer were ambushed by heavily armed assailants after being lured into a parking lot at Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. Shortly after the attack, seven black-clad men with guns, radios, and body armor were found wandering in a field about 300 yards away. In total, there are 12 known suspects – including one former US Marine.

And physical attacks aren’t the only kind. Homeland Security also announced Friday that extremist groups are doxxing ICE personnel and their families in the Portland, Oregon, area. Secretary Kristi Noem blamed anarchist and Antifa-affiliated groups, including “Rose City Counter-Info” and “The Crustian Daily,” which published the personal information – including officers’ names, photos, home addresses, and even details about spouses and children.

In all, DHS reports that assaults against agents are up almost 700% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, sanctuary cities – like Portland and Los Angeles – prohibit local and state police from working with federal law enforcement. It’s a risk-laden job made all the more dangerous by the mobs of violent protesters and the rhetoric and policies of progressive politicians. Yet the administration won’t be dissuaded. During an interview with Fox Business, border czar Tom Homan declared agents would be “doubling down, tripling down” in sanctuary cities like Los Angeles and Portland.
