Rasmussen Survey Reveals Disturbing Views of Young Voters

Voters under 40 lean toward collectivism, away from national sovereignty.

It is not exactly news that the younger generation will flirt with radical ideology. In particular, socialism is often a popular – perhaps even “cool” – idea among those who have no real-world experience of what it does to a nation. A new Rasmussen survey of voters aged 18 to 39 yielded some quite unsettling results, however, indicating that a significant proportion of voters in this age group either don’t care too much about individual liberty or don’t understand the repercussions of the ideas they believe are right for the United States.

Rasmussen and StoppingSocialism.com engaged with 1,201 US likely voters aged 18 to 39 on August 26 and 27, 2025. One of the questions was: “Would you support a law that imposes a maximum annual income cap for individuals?” A stunning 59% of respondents said they would support such a law, while just 27% rejected the idea and 14% were not sure.

One cannot help but wonder how many of those who like the idea of the government dictating how much they earn refer to people who don’t share their political views as fascists.

Scary Rasmussen Survey Results

The devastating effects of such a law can hardly be overstated. It can be assumed that those participants in the Rasmussen survey who answered yes to this question haven’t considered the massive reductions in tax revenues flowing to all levels of government – or, worse, the end of entrepreneurship, innovation, or any reason to build a business at all.

Additionally, 59% of the voters polled answered in the affirmative when asked the question: “Would you support a proposal for a new constitutional amendment that would give the United Nations the authority to oversee the Supreme Court and presidency, to ensure that Americans’ rights are being protected?”

The Rasmussen survey is guilty of a little entrapment, here, with “to ensure that Americans’ rights are being protected?” Who wouldn’t want to ensure that rights are protected? But that was almost certainly the point, for the pollsters. Where is the critical thinking among these young voters? What are the chances that the United Nations, given authority over the Supreme Court and the executive branch, would protect Americans’ rights?

Asked about a hypothetical constitutional amendment to replace the United States Congress with a “national citizens’ assembly,” 39% were in favor. And 39% also liked the idea of punishing anyone who refused to use another person’s preferred pronouns, either with fines (17%), community service (16%), or jail time (6%).

Alarming viewpoints, any lover of liberty would say. Rasmussen Reports quotes StoppingSocialism.com Editor-in-Chief Donald Kendal:

“These results are deeply alarming. Young voters are not only embracing income redistribution and collectivist economics, but also expressing shocking support for dismantling America’s constitutional system and handing power to international organizations. These are radical views that strike at the heart of liberty and national sovereignty.”

Academic institutions in the US continue to push radical ideologies like socialism onto young people who have no frame of reference. The Soviet Union-controlled Warsaw Pact countries collapsed in the 1990s. No one under 40 years of age recalls what life was like in those Eastern European communist countries – and this Rasmussen survey shows it. The results prove – as if any more proof were needed – that America’s entire educational system, public and private, needs a complete overhaul.
