America’s worst gets the legacy he deserves
Joe Biden, 82, is struggling to raise money for his presidential library. NBC News reported last week many longtime donors are not particularly eager to contribute.
“I want an $800,000 refund,” said John Morgan, a Biden donor who raised nearly $1 million for his reelection campaign. “I don’t believe a library will ever be built unless it’s a bookmobile from the old days.” Morgan said he was (sort of) joking about the bookmobile, but suggested “no significant building will be built” to preserve the former president’s legacy.
Biden is reportedly hoping to raise about $300 million for his library, which is well short of the $850-million cost of the hideous (and still unfinished) monstrosity former president Barack Obama is building to honor himself. Donors are reluctant to write checks for several reasons, not least being the lingering resentment over Biden’s decision to run for a second term despite his barely functioning brain. Some described personal interactions with Biden’s inner circle as “so distasteful they believed it would be a barrier to ever raising significant funds.”
Something will eventually get built, though Biden almost certainly won’t live to see it. That’s just as well, because he’s a notorious egomaniac who appears to genuinely regard himself as a historical leader in the mold of FDR. His library will be a small, pathetic tribute to his legacy, and that’s exactly what he deserves.
