Insurance Giant Pushes Woke Agenda in US: Don’t Judge China

A conservative consumer watchdog group has launched a campaign against one of the largest insurance companies in the US. Consumers’ Research has skillfully pointed out how Chubb Limited and its CEO Evan Greenberg only seem to be committed to “values” when promoting radical woke programs in America. Where are those values, though, when it’s time for lucrative business with China?

Two new websites have been created, ChinaChubb.com and WokeChubb.com, detailing the Consumers’ Research accusations. Greenberg’s tight connections to China date back to his father, Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, the former CEO of insurance giant American International Group, who played a key role in getting the Red Chinese into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Hank Greenberg’s cultivation of China’s market dates back to the 1970s.

Bullish on China, Sowing Unrest in the USA

Evan Greenberg has frequently met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in his role as one of corporate America’s most prominent supporters of doing business inside a country run by an oppressive authoritarian regime. Greenberg today serves as Executive Vice Chair of the National Committee on US-China Relations, a nonprofit organization that tirelessly works to boost US industry presence in China.

Chubb itself is doing brisk business amid the tyranny. In 2022, it was able to secure rare Chinese government approval to take over majority control of Huatai Insurance Group, a joint venture between the state and private business. Chubb now has an 85.5% stake in Hutai, which has over $10 billion in assets.

That may help explain CEO Greenberg’s convenient application of morality in the corporate world.

In the US, Chubb takes a firm, righteous stance in backing leftist social agitation. “Chubb Insurance is all-in on pushing radical woke ideology. CEO Evan Greenberg openly opposes basic protections for women’s spaces, attacks democratic laws, continues to embrace DEI, and props up groups that expose kids to dangerous transgender activism,” Consumers’ Research Executive Director Will Hild said in a statement to Fox News.

Fox cites one example:

“On its webpage, Chubb discusses ‘Advancing Racial Justice,’ where the company touts its support of an organization called Equal Justice USA, which openly supported convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. According to that same webpage, the company believes ‘racial justice and equity is both an individual journey and collective duty.’ ‘We believe in being anti-racist because a rejection of racism alone is insufficient,’ the website states.”

Such stunning corporate bravely in calling out institutional power in the US – now let’s see how that works with a bloodstained Beijing regime known for harnessing slave labor in its state-run industries.

America Cannot ‘Put Trade in Competition With Values’

“The fact is that we have a co-dependence,” Greenberg told the arch-globalist Council on Foreign Relations in a 2022 podcast discussion. “And I believe that the right approach to China ought to begin with a mental model that is clear. We have to find a way to coexist, because frankly the opposite of that is, what, one of us doesn’t exist? So we have to find a way that accommodates each of our visions of greatness, that accommodates our core priorities.”

They have no interest in not being a tyranny? We can work with that. Greenberg went on to say that China is “predatory” in its trading practices but that we shouldn’t get all hung up on Western ethics. “They are predatory and as a country they do not want to look like us,” he continued. “And they don’t want to pursue our model. Fine. But let’s not be offended by that. And let’s not be threatened by that.”

Greenberg made his intentionally amoral stance even clearer in a June 2022 speech to The Economic Club of New York. “American interests are ill-served when policymakers put trade in competition with trust or values,” he asserted. “America’s partners in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere do not welcome China’s assault on individual liberties, but they also do not see trade policy as the venue to adjudicate those differences.”

Greenberg shockingly even went so far as to state that vital national security concerns and a desire to protect American workers from a cheap-labor reservoir fueled greatly by slavery cannot be allowed to get in the way of conducting commerce inside China.

“Too often lately, China economic policy decisions in Washington have been made in the name of national security or worker’s rights, but without an appreciable understanding of their economic effects,” he brazenly told his audience. “The more that policy decisions degrade our companies’ capability to compete abroad, the more they will sap America’s national strength over time.”

Greenberg also dismissed out of hand concerns about sharing sensitive technology with China.

“It’s not in America’s national security interests to make China less dependent upon technology products made with American equipment and expertise. The less reliant China is on American-produced technology, the less leverage the United States will have to influence how China pursues its interests over time,” he declared.

Naturally, Greenberg also supports massive unchecked immigration into the US for reasons of “economic growth.”

“We have to grow our labor force. And we could grow it significantly and a lot more quickly. Both with skilled and unskilled labor that wants to work in America,” Greenberg told the Economic Club. “We have closed ourselves off to immigration and to immigration at scale.”. Though he calls it not “politically correct” or “popular,” Greenberg feels we have “great unfinished business in terms of immigration that we need to deal with.”

Need we say more? This is how a globalist agenda that incorporates pushing social leftism on Western nations as a key ingredient serves the interests of a powerful American corporate behemoth.

It’s not hypocrisy or naivety driving Chubb’s seemingly incompatible support of radical social causes in America while effortlessly shrugging off all moral bearings when it comes to China. It’s cold financial calculation.

As a dated woke edifice crumbles in major corporate executive suites across the US, it is far past time to ask why these hard-boiled business players saw a financial advantage to themselves in promoting the worst cultural rot imaginable inside a free nation as so many of them scurried to transact lucrative deals with tyrants abroad.
