Will Victims of the Weaponized Biden DOJ See Restitution?

A new campaign to empower wronged citizens is underway.

It’s clear to all by now that President Trump has not surrendered his long-held position that Joe Biden and company stole the 2020 election. On November 7 of this year, President Trump issued a proclamation granting pardons for certain offenses related to the 2020 Presidential Election. Trump’s pardons were ostensibly made to advance “the process of national reconciliation,” according to the presidential document. But there is still a ton of cleanup needed before the doubts about Election 2020 are erased from the American consciousness – if that is even possible. These pardons – which included electors from several states – have brought the issue of restitution to a head this week. The catalyst appears to be a provision Congress passed pertaining to itself.

Rewinding to the most recent government shutdown, it just so happened that a backroom deal was struck, allowing lawmakers targeted by the Biden Department of Justice to receive a government payout. The new provision would enable legislators to collect $500,000 per subpoenaed phone record in connection with the Operation Arctic Frost investigation. Obviously, this could amount to a lot of money. This is restitution for the lawmakers, but what about the alternative electors who were persecuted by a weaponized DOJ? Shouldn’t they be eligible for restitution as well?

The Oversight Project, formerly a division of the Heritage Foundation, is campaigning for the president and the attorney general to take the steps necessary to right the wrong done to these people.  President of the project, Mike Howell, summed up the situation by saying:

“The Biden Justice Department weaponized law enforcement to a scale never before seen in American history.  It was reprehensible. Many great Americans had their financial and professional lives ruined through this process.”

A letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche made the point that President Trump’s “pardon for prosecutions surrounding the 2020 contingent electors are eligible for restitution from the federal government.” This is not unlike the restitution made to conservative non-profit organizations that the IRS, under then-President Barack Obama, essentially blacklisted, preventing them from receiving tax exemptions. During Trump’s first term, then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent federal payouts to those whom President Obama’s DOJ had unfairly targeted.

Now, here we are again. The Oversight Project press release makes the point that “Our message to those victimized is simple: It’s your government, and it shouldn’t be hurting you, but if it does, then it should do everything to make you whole again.”

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

The House of Representatives eventually saw the light and unanimously repealed the provision regarding federal restitution for its members. But the Senate has not yet backed away from a potential windfall, evidently ignoring the very poor optics of senators cashing in while the so-called little people are left hanging.

Biden DOJ: A Travesty

As the Oversight letter pointed out, Trump’s action “was a critical step towards securing full and complete justice for those loyal patriots who courageously stood for what was right for their beloved country, and for doing no more than what has been done in the midst of virtually every election cycle since the founding of our great nation.”

Most of these court cases have hit speed bumps and, for one reason or another, have been dismissed. In September, for example,  legal action against 15 Michigan Republicans for allegedly “attempting to falsely certify Trump as the winner” was dismissed. There’s no getting around the fact that the acrimony over the outcome of election 2020 has not subsided; it has perhaps even metastasized since that time. Lawyer Cleta Mitchell, who was involved in Trump’s attempt to reverse the 2020 outcome in Georgia, recently wrote about this in The Federalist:

“The Biden administration turned the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the Stasi of the Democratic Party and used it to try to vanquish their political opponents, not at the ballot box, but through lawyers, courts, and jail cells. “

It is within a president’s discretion to correct the injustice these electors had to endure. A pardon is a good thing, but where restitution is warranted, let Congress not dither with something right and fair to those who were wrongfully targeted.  In the coming months, more about the Biden DOJ will be brought to light as the Trump administration continues digging into the election mess of 2020. Taking this action won’t answer the many questions that remain about the pandemic election, but it’s a good start and can be seen as part of the healing catharsis the country still seems to need.
