What do the leaders of a political party do when their hated enemy is dominating the stage and grabbing all the headlines for actions of seismic proportions? They welcome any port in the storm. And for Democrats and the left in 2026, endlessly frustrated by the many historic accomplishments of President Donald Trump, that means embracing anarchy, defined as a state of disorder due to the absence or nonrecognition of authority or other controlling systems.
Indeed, anarchy is the only apt description of what is transpiring in the sanctuary state of Minnesota. Egged on by the reckless and reprehensible conduct of three public servants — Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and the state’s Attorney General Keith Ellison — protesters have had a field day, acting with impunity to target Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents attempting to find and arrest hardened criminal aliens. All of this would be unnecessary if President Joe Biden had not discarded all of Trump’s first-term immigration policies and left the border wide open to millions of unvetted migrants.
The Left Explains Away Criminal Behavior
Given the horrific crimes committed by those targeted for deportation, it is hard to believe that, in their heart of hearts, the great bulk of the denizens of Minnesota’s twin cities would object to the actions of ICE. Let’s put it in the simplest terms: The thousands of protesters, many or most of whom are reportedly being paid for their service to the hard left, are taking extreme measures to protect murderers, pedophiles, drug and human traffickers, while they vilify and interfere with federal law enforcement attempting to round up the worst of the worst.
According to Axios, a House Democratic caucus call on Jan. 25 focused on efforts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and travel to Minnesota in support of the anti-ICE mob after the recent shooting of protester Alex Pretti. Once again, having their entire agenda centered on hating Trump while advancing not a single constructive proposal since he re-entered the White House, leftists are pouncing on a tragedy in a shameful attempt to rebuild their toxic brand. Apparently, they fail or refuse to realize that it was stunts just like this that led voters to remove them from power. And yet, a move is afoot on the left to abolish ICE altogether and replace it with, well, nothing as far as we know. Talk about a transparent attempt to protect all illegal aliens.
Leftists have tried to brush off the atrocious offenses of the criminals targeted by ICE, many of whom had been ordered out of the country by courts before Trump returned to the Oval Office. Want some examples of the 1,500 criminal aliens the administration says it has arrested in Minnesota? Hernan Cortes-Valencia of Mexico was convicted on two counts of homicide, four DUIs, three counts of larceny, and burglary. Thai Lor of Laos was convicted of two counts of homicide. Another Laotian, Chong Vue, was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl, kidnapping a child with the intent to sexually assault her, and vehicle theft. Abdirashid Adosh Elmi from Somalia was convicted of murder. Mongong Kual Gilberto Salguero Landaverde from El Salvador was found guilty of three counts of homicide. The list goes on and on.
So now two people have died after interactions with ICE agents. Let’s ask a rhetorical question: If you violently defy a police officer trying to arrest you, what might you expect would happen? Multiply that by thousands, and deaths become inevitable. And yet, the mob, empowered by the trio of state leaders, demands perfectly restrained behavior from agents being taunted and attacked day after day. Or perhaps the crazies just welcome the ripe opportunity to call them murderers. To the matter of how aggressive ICE has been in locating and arresting these criminals, here is another simple question: Does anyone expect violent lawbreakers to simply surrender without a fight? It is incredibly difficult and dangerous to apprehend those who have no respect for the law.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, some 60% of voters, fed up with Biden’s open border and the resulting spike in crime, said they supported the deportation of all illegal aliens. The keyword there is all. And yet, even as ICE targets only alien criminals, the left is acting as though those who have not only entered the country illegally but then committed crimes are worthy of their protection, while ICE is the one being called criminal. It’s called turning truth on its head. Multiple elected officials on the left advanced a brazen lie, crying that ICE had seized a 5-year-old from his father, when in fact the father had run away from the son, who was then protected by ICE agents.
The Deporter-in-Chief Attacks Deportations
In a laughable irony, President Barack Obama, called the “deporter-in-chief” for sending some three million illegals packing, has now joined the fray and made the situation even more volatile, posting on X: “It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.” Obama and his wife Michelle criticized the “unprecedented tactics” of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), saying “people across the country have been rightly outraged by the spectacle of masked ICE recruits and other federal agents acting with impunity and engaging in tactics that seem designed to intimidate, harass, provoke and endanger the residents of a major American city.”
It is admittedly never a good look when masked federal agents use muscle to detain or arrest people. But it is not Americans, legal immigrants, or illegals with no criminal records, but lawbreakers who do not belong in this country who are being targeted. And once protesters started doxxing overwhelmed agents, developing apps that show where they are headed, and trying to deprive them of sleep by generating loud noise all night outside their hotels, ICE was left with no choice but to provide masks as the agents’ only form of protection from the mob.
This is madness, the kind that can both rivet and sunder a country already dangerously divided. But the truth is not complicated. One side is out to deport illegal alien criminals, and the other side is out to protect them. And all the weeping and gnashing of teeth on the left does not change that simple, odious fact. The radical left has hitched its wagon to this display of extremism dressed up as false virtue, but we will find out soon enough what the rank-and-file voters, who rejected leftist extremism in the last election, think about more left-wing mayhem as midterm elections approach.
