President Donald Trump has nominated federal prosecutor Colin McDonald to serve as the first attorney general for national fraud enforcement, a newly created role.

Trump revealed in a Truth Social post on Wednesday that the new AG would oversee a new division within the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“I am pleased to nominate Colin McDonald to serve as the first ever Assistant Attorney General for National FRAUD Enforcement, a new Division at the Department of Justice, which I created to catch and stop FRAUDSTERS that have been STEALING from the American People,” Trump wrote. “My Administration has uncovered Fraud schemes in States like Minnesota and California, where these thieves have stolen Hundreds of Billions of Taxpayer Dollars.”

Major fraud schemes were recently uncovered in Minnesota and California involving businesses that posed as social welfare providers to obtain government funding, but didn’t appear to deliver on their promised services. For example, the “Quality Learning Center” (known for its misspelled sign that read, “Learing”), received heavy scrutiny after video footage came out revealing it to be empty, despite receiving large reimbursements from Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).

Trump praised McDonald’s success and intelligence.

“Colin McDonald is a very Smart, Tough, and Highly Respected AMERICA FIRST Federal Prosecutor who has successfully delivered Justice in some of the most difficult and high stakes cases our Country has ever seen,” Trump said. “Together, we will END THE FRAUD, and RESTORE INTEGRITY to our Federal Programs.”

“Congratulations Colin — STOP THE SCAMS!” he added.

McDonald has served in the office of Deputy Attorney Todd Blanche, who responded to Trump’s announcement with a glowing review on X.

“Colin is a rockstar, who was instrumental in our team’s mission of Making America Safe Again,” Blanche reported. “He is a consummate prosecutor who loves God, family, and country and will serve the President and the American people well.”

Between 2014 and 2025, McDonald worked as a federal prosecutor in Southern California and Hawaii.

In 2020, McDonald helped secure convictions of Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha, his wife, city prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, and two police officers in a scandal that framed an innocent man to cover up their theft of $148,000 from an elderly relative.

Vice President JD Vance announced the creation of the position in a White House press briefing this month, having highlighted reports of widespread fraud in certain states.

“Colin McDonald is widely regarded as a thorough and highly competent attorney. He has an exceptional prosecutorial track record, which we look forward to seeing him put to use in his new role as Assistant Attorney General,” Vance said at the time.
