William Wyler’s masterpiece made history with a record 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor with Charlton Heston in the leading role as Judah Ben-Hur.
The idea for the film came from the best-selling novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, published in 1880. The book tells the story of a life-altering encounter between a first-century Jewish prince and Jesus of Nazareth.
It follows the story of the title character as he journeys from being a member of Jewish nobility to being falsely accused and sentenced to certain death as a slave in a Roman galley ship.
Along the way, Judah Ben-Hur meets Jesus, learns the power of forgiveness, and his life and family are forever changed.
