Democrats in Glass Houses – The American Mind

Maybe they’d better sit this one out.

Egads! The Democrats! I had almost forgotten about them. I’m sure they’d prefer we all did, at this point. Ineffectiveness and obscurity would be better than whatever the hell this train wreck is that we’re watching now. It feels indecent even to discuss, like commenting on someone’s unsightly facial deformity. But I suppose we must.

What truly amazes me is that people like CNN’s Jake Tapper and former Biden Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre still consider themselves authorities on when it’s appropriate to talk about what. Enough time has elapsed since Joe Biden’s mental decline was exposed that heads may now commence rolling in polite society. But how absolutely dare you inquire after the sequence of events leading up to his cancer diagnosis mere days after it was made public? A man is dying, for the love of God, have you no SHAME?

Well, a man is dying, it’s true. It’s a sad end to a sordid tale, and I do feel the pity of it, which is why arguments like this typically work on guys like me. The only thing that’s missing is the credibility of the people making them, which has been shot to pieces and lies bleeding out in the gutter like some ragged cur. It’s not that delicacy in these matters isn’t necessary, it’s that the pundits advocating it are so egregiously indelicate, and everybody knows that when they say a topic is inappropriate they mean it’s inconvenient. I’d sooner take coaching on tact from a mobster.

So it’s really not the tortured senescence of an ailing man that I’m interested in litigating. I genuinely believe Joe Biden himself has suffered more than enough and is accountable, now, only to a justice beyond my scope or virtue. What’s done is done. What’s left is the rotted scaffolding of the system that propped him up for so long, and the shabby clowns who still can’t seem to see their own red noses despite looking relentlessly down them at the rest of us.

It’s things like the report that came out recently, which alleges that the previous administration took steps to prevent critical information from reaching people who needed it to decide about taking the COVID vaccine. That’s the unique mixture of absurdity and low villainy we call corruption. And yes it’s hilarious. And yes it’s maddening. And yes, it’s all hideously sad.

In other words, it’s the world. Not that it lets any of these cretins off the hook—scandal will come, but woe to him through whom it comes. Still, it seems to me one major selling point of Christianity is its teaching that this is pretty much the state of things. If it weren’t the Democrats it’d be some other gang of chuckleheads we had to contend with. Given time and opportunity, I imagine the Republicans will turn out to be just as bad. But take heart! This is the world, and no other, that Christ has overcome. Once you’ve taken stock of what a sorry mess it is, that starts to sound like good news.
