A Democrat House member has called the US military an extremist threat. In a video released by Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) on November 18, she and five other congressional Democrats called on members of the armed services to disobey “unlawful” orders without actually specifically calling out any such orders. In other words, they presumably mean simply any order from the Trump administration – or, at least, all the ones they disagree with. This drastically different “vision” for the military isn’t anything new, though. One of the six, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), was a key sponsor of 2020 legislation aimed at massively boosting “diversity and inclusion” into the services.
“Today, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), a member of the House Armed Services Committee and former Army Ranger, and Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, introduced the Realizing Efforts for Military Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (REMEDI) Act to require 21st century diversity training for the Department of Defense workforce,” read a December 17, 2020, press release from Crow’s office.
“The legislation would update outdated language to ensure diversity training at the Department of Defense is a reflection of our nation’s values and promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion at the largest governmental agency.”
Crow: ‘Extremism and White Supremacy’ Rampant in Military
Crow’s pro-diversity activism reflects a deep-seated distrust of American servicemembers. The fiercely anti-Trump legislator presented the events of January 6, 2021, at the US Capitol as evidence of a right-wing extremist problem endemic to the military.
“There is a crisis issue: the rise of extremism and white supremacy in the ranks,” Crow told Politico in an article published Jan. 11, 2021. “That has been fueled by President [Donald] Trump, unfortunately. So that has to be dealt with right away and unequivocally. That’s top of the list.”
In Dec. 2021, Crow was heavily featured in a special Associated Press report on Biden administration Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s efforts to “institute a one-day stand-down to address extremism within the nation’s armed forces.”
“Crow said last week it’s too soon to determine whether the Pentagon’s policy updates are enough to weed out extremism, but he believes Austin is the right person to tackle the decades-long issue,” the network related. “Membership in some of these groups does give me concern and it does potentially send the wrong message,” Crow told AP. “The military is all about trust. It’s all about making sure that you trust the person on your right and your left. Membership in some of these extreme organizations go right to the core of undermining that trust.”
Diversity ‘More Important’ Than ‘How to Throw a Hand Grenade’
Crow has bizarrely asserted that diversity is a requirement for military performance and slurred active-duty members as being filled with hatred.
“One of the strengths of our military is its diversity. In Iraq and Afghanistan, I served with men and women from every corner of the country and the team was stronger for our diversity,” Crow declared in his 2020 release touting his REMDI bill. “I believe an important function of the military is to be a standard bearer for the values of our country and to lead by example. But I also know we have a problem in our military with sexual violence, racism, and homophobia. This bill is a powerful step forward to ensure our military is a place of equality, inclusivity, and integration.”
“We’re not doing nearly enough to say diversity and inclusion are an important part of our force,” Crow told leftist media outlet Vox that same day. “It’s as important as how to throw a hand grenade, how to shoot a rifle, and how to make a bed. Actually, it’s much more important than those things.”
Crow’s authoritarian cultural leftism is evident in other avenues that apply to the military. He was a strong supporter of vaccine mandates for the ranks during the coronavirus pandemic. “If somebody is not willing to do what’s necessary to protect their own health and the health of their unit, that actually calls into question their ability to effectively do the job,” he told the Associated Press in November 2021.
Fought to Keep Trump Off Colorado Ballot in 2024
Crow has never made any secret of his strong antipathy towards President Trump.
“I think he’s demonstrated the use of violence to get what he wants. I think that he’s demonstrated the fact that he has narcissistic tendencies, sociopathic tendencies, and that’s not somebody who should be trusted, certainly in the highest office of our land, not to mention to be a dog sitter, for that matter,” Crow told Colorado Public Radio in a September 2023 interview in which he declared his support for barring Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential ballot.
“He has no doubt tried to jump-start white nationalism and white supremacy, right? The white supremacist movement and antisemitism in America is surging right now in no small part due to the rhetoric and the mobilization by Donald Trump,” the congressman continued.
In keeping with his new video calling on military members to disobey orders issued to them, Crow displayed a propensity to embrace extraordinary measures to oppose Trump with his push to prevent a vast number of Coloradoans from being allowed to back the candidate of their choice. Trump went on to garner 1,377,441 votes in the state on Election Day.
“Voters should always decide our election. That’s how our system works,” Crow attempted to acknowledge to CPR. “The challenge that we’re facing right now is when you have the former president, President Trump, who is using violence, intimidation, fraud, and lies to actually thwart the will of the voters.
“And when that happens, when you have somebody who’s trying to thwart the will of the voters and go around our system and to rig our system, the Constitution actually has a provision to deal with that. And our laws have a provision to deal with that. It is illegal, it is unconstitutional, and that’s the provision that we’re invoking in this instance and what this lawsuit is focused on.”
And that’s Jason Crow – just one of the six congressional Democrats behind this outrageously dangerous video. This is the man telling members of the military to disobey Trump.
