The House of Representatives has passed a bill to end a partial government shutdown, providing temporary funding for several federal agencies.
On Tuesday, after a four-day standoff between the Republicans and Democrats over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the House voted to pass a roughly $1.2 trillion spending package in a 217 – 214 vote.
Most Republicans supported fully reopening the government, along with 21 Democrats, while 21 Republicans joined the majority of Democrats in voting against ending the shutdown.
The February 3rd spending package provides long-term funding through September 30, 2026, for most major federal departments, including Defense, Health and Human Services, Labor, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Education, and State.
The DHS will only be funded temporarily through February 13th, in order to give lawmakers more time to negotiate on longer-term DHS funding and policy changes.
President Donald Trump has stated that he will sign the bill once it reaches his desk.
