GOP Representative Jason Smith has touted the success of President Donald Trump’s tax policies.
During an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Smith (R-Mo.) said he’s expecting over $360 billion to be returned to taxpayers this refund season.
The Missouri lawmaker pointed out that Congress prevented the largest tax increase in U.S. history in passing the Trump tax cuts as part of the Big Beautiful Bill.
He also highlighted how policies like no tax on tips and child tax credits are helping increase the purchasing power of hard-working Americans.
“Her tax refund was over $10,000,” he stated when telling a story about a waitress in his district that benefited from President Trump’s ‘No Tax on Tips.’ “She was a waitress, no tax on tips, she had children. With the increased child deduction, these are things that drastically affected her bottom line. And when you’re talking about a waitress in southeast Missouri with a $10,000 refund, that will pay for her rent for an entire year and a lot of groceries. That is very substantial.”
The lawmaker also said inflation is at its lowest level in five years.
