When asked about President Donald Trump’s health during an interview, Vice President JD Vance affirmed that the president remains in “incredibly good health,” though he emphasized that he stands ready to assume the responsibilities of presidential leadership — should the occasion arise.

In a Friday interview with USA Today, Vance was asked to assess the health of 79-year-old President Trump, providing his perspective on the president’s current physical condition and his own readiness to assume leadership if circumstances demanded.

“The president is in incredibly good health,” Vance responded. “He’s got incredible energy. He’s the last person making phone calls at night, and he’s the first person who wakes up, and the first person making phone calls in the morning.”

Vance was then asked whether he is ready to lead the nation if anything were to happen to President Trump, to which he responded: “Yes, things can always happen. Yes, terrible tragedies happen… But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term, and do great things for the American people,” he continued. “And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”

Vance’s comments follow President Trump’s medical diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition for individuals above the age of 70, causing swelling in the lower legs.

In addition, White House physician Sean Barbabella responded in a memo, calling the condition “benign and common, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”

“Importantly, there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or arterial disease,” Barbabella wrote in July.

Additionally, Barbabella responded to the viral online images of bruising on the back of President Trump’s hand, explaining that it is “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen. This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy.”

Overall, Barbella’s recent assessment found that President Trump still “remains in excellent health.”
