Tears and Cheers as Israeli Hostages Reunite With Families

The 20 living Israeli hostages who spent two years in Hamas captivity reunited with their families on Monday morning as the terror group released them under the Trump administration’s peace deal.

Hamas abducted the hostages, most of them civilians, during its Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel. “Today, twenty families are spared the unbearable pain of not knowing if they will ever see their loved ones again,” White House envoy Steve Witkoff wrote in a statement, vowing to recover the bodies of 28 deceased hostages, including 2 Americans.

Pictures and videos of the reunions show tearful embraces and cheers.

Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Evyatar David were abducted from the Nova music festival. The two were “starved and kept in chains with bags over their heads,” the Times of Israel reported earlier this year.

Matan Zangauker, kidnapped from his home during the October 7 attack, suffers from muscular dystrophy that he developed in captivity and was “shackled and held in cages,” according to the Times. He reunited with his mother Einav, who told him, “Thank God the war is over. The war is over,” the BBC reported.

Bar Kuperstein was working as a security guard at the Nova music festival during Hamas’s attack. His grandparents are Holocaust survivors.

Eitan Mor also worked as a security guard at the Nova music festival at the time of the attack. His parents credited his survival with his “incredible social skills” that helped him become “the spokesman” for the hostages to Hamas captors, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Segev Kalfon was taken captive as he tried to escape by car from the Nova music festival. He struggles with an anxiety disorder and broke his leg before Hamas’s kidnapping, according to the Times.

Alon Ohel suffered head trauma and shrapnel wounds as he was abducted from the Nova music festival. His family revealed earlier this year that he had lost vision in one eye and that his head wounds were stitched up by an untrained 19-year-old.

Yosef-Chaim Ohana, who worked as a bartender in Tel Aviv, was taken captive as he tried to help injured attendees of the music festival escape, according to the Times.

Matan Angrest, a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, was taken from his tank at the Nahal Oz military base. Hamas captors subjected Angrest to electric torture, freed hostage Ron Krivoi said in April.

Nimrod Cohen, another IDF soldier abducted from his tank, was held in an animal cage for months and endured extreme interrogations by Hamas captors, according to the Post.

Omri Miran, who was kidnapped from his home in Nahal Oz, reunited with his wife and two young daughters.
