Prominent people around the globe share their thoughts.
After graduating from high school, Charlie Kirk founded Turning Point USA and had a stratospheric rise, bringing a conservative message to college students nationwide during a time when universities were dominated by liberal orthodoxy and had little exposure to right-wing ideas. He built TPUSA into a prodigious and highly influential organization, and spent much of his time touring college campuses to engage with students who vehemently disagreed with him. Kirk has often been credited with helping President Trump win the presidential election in 2024. He was one of the nation’s most prominent conservative voices, a father, a husband, and a man of faith. His impact was global and will no doubt influence people for generations.
Here is what a few of the many eminent voices worldwide had to say about his tragic death.
President Donald Trump:
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Vice President JD Vance:
“Charlie Kirk was a true friend. The kind of guy you could say something to and know it would always stay with him. I am on more than a few group chats with Charlie and people he introduced me to over the years. We celebrate weddings and babies, bust each other’s chops, and mourn the loss of loved ones. We talk about politics and policy and sports and life. These group chats include people at the very highest level of our government. They trusted him, loved him, and knew he’d always have their backs. And because he was a true friend, you could instinctively trust the people Charlie introduced you to. So much of the success we’ve had in this administration traces directly to Charlie’s ability to organize and convene. He didn’t just help us win in 2024, he helped us staff the entire government.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer:
“My thoughts this evening are with the loved ones of Charlie Kirk. It is heartbreaking that a young family has been robbed of a father and a husband. We must all be free to debate openly and freely without fear – there can be no justification for political violence.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“Charlie Kirk was murdered for speaking truth and defending freedom. A lion-hearted friend of Israel, he fought the lies and stood tall for Judeo-Christian civilization. We lost an incredible human being. His boundless pride in America and his valiant belief in free speech will leave a lasting impact. Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk.”
Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni:
“An atrocious murder, a deep wound for democracy and for those who believe in freedom. My condolences to his family, to his loved ones, and to the American conservative community.”
UK Reform Leader Nigel Farage:
“This is a very dark day for American democracy. I am desperately sad for Charlie, his wife and children.”
President of Argentina Javier Milei:
“My condolences to Charlie Kirk’s family and to all the young people around the world who admired and listened to him. A formidable promoter of the ideas of freedom and a staunch defender of the West. He was the victim of a heinous murder amid a wave of left-wing political violence throughout the region. The left is always, everywhere and at all times, a violent phenomenon full of hatred. The whole world lost an unbelievable human being. Farewell.”
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson:
“The murder of Charlie Kirk is a tragedy, and a sign of the utter desperation and cowardice of those who could not defeat him in argument. Charlie Kirk has been killed not for espousing extremist views – because he didn’t. He has been killed for saying things that used to be simple common sense. He has been killed because he had the courage to stand up publicly for reasonable opinions held by millions and millions of ordinary people both in the US and Britain. The world has a shining new martyr to free speech. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán:
“Yesterday, we lost a true defender of faith and freedom. Our deepest condolences go to the Kirk family and to the American people. Charlie Kirk’s death is the result of the international hate campaign waged by the progressive-liberal left. … We must stop the hatred! We must stop the hate-mongering left!”
Cenk Uygur, political commentator and co-creator of The Young Turks:
“What happened to Charlie Kirk is one of the worst things that has happened in American politics. My heart goes out to his family. F— WHOEVER DID THIS! Not only is it deeply tragic by itself, but we are now all in danger. Violence is always wrong and it’s intellectual surrender.”
Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro:
“Like all of you, I am utterly stunned and heartbroken and sick to my soul today. It is unimaginable to write these words. I met Charlie Kirk when he was 18 years old, a young man so eager and determined that I immediately turned to a friend and said, ‘That kid is going to be the head of the RNC one day.’ Charlie became even bigger and more important than that. It was a privilege to watch this principled man stand up for his beliefs and create the single most important conservative political organization in America. But more importantly, Charlie was a good man, a man who believed in right and wrong, who stood by his Biblical values. All of us will miss him, and I can’t imagine the pain of his beautiful young family, and we must all pray for them. And we must pick up the baton where Charlie left it, fighting for the things he believed in so passionately. And we must fight for a better America – an America where good people can speak truth and debate passionately without fear of a bullet. I weep for Charlie’s family, and I weep for my country today. Most of all, I weep for Charlie.”
