Voters in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District have cast their ballots, advancing Republican Clay Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris to a runoff in the race to succeed former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene after neither candidate reached the 50% threshold required to win the special election outright.

On Tuesday, 12 Republicans, three Democrats and a pair of Independents went head to head in the special election race to represent the seat in northwestern Georgia.

With 73% of the total votes counted, Harris received 38.3% while Fuller received 34.5%, according to the Associated Press — giving neither candidate the chance to clench the necessary 50% majority, officially locking in an April 7, 2026 runoff.

Fuller, who is the district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, was the only candidate in the race that was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

Last month, Fuller spoke before the president at an event in Rome, Georgia, where he described himself as a “MAGA warrior.”

“It is the honor of my lifetime to be endorsed and the only candidate in this special election to be endorsed,” Fuller said after receiving Trump’s stamp of approval.

“I’m endorsing that man very fully,” President Trump reiterated at the event.

Harris was endorsed by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who said, “There’s no such thing as a permanently red state or district.”

The seat was vacated by Greene after she announced in November that she would step down on January 5, 2026 — the day before the start of the 119th Congress. Her departure came amid a turbulent political period, closing a career that included moments of controversy but also demonstrated loyalty to President Trump.

After Greene began publicly complaining and shifting leftward, President Trump decisively withdrew his support, calling her a “traitor,” underscoring his commitment to backing candidates who align with his vision for the Republican Party.

This election comes amid Republicans clinging on to a razor-thin 218-214 majority in the House of Representatives.

In the 2024 presidential election, Trump carried the district by a whooping 37 points.
