Now that the money trail between USAID, NGOs, and the illegal alien pipeline into the United States has been sketched in to a revealing degree, the next logical step is to track the welcoming committees set up by Democratic mayors and governors in their blue-dominated political fiefdoms. No state is more in need of a rigorous audit than the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Jon Fetherston ran one of Democratic Gov. Maura Healey’s migrant shelters in the Bay State, a Holiday Inn in Marlborough. He has been making the rounds of late serving as a whistleblower with firsthand knowledge of the flaws and outrages associated with Healey’s mass illegal alien housing operation.
Lack of proper oversight was endemic to the entire apparatus, Fetherston stressed. And it’s not just about money.
‘No Documentation,’ ‘No One Was Held Accountable’
Criminal illegal aliens with active deportation orders were “knowingly placed in family shelters alongside children and vulnerable residents,” Fetherston told The Blaze in an eye-opening interview published June 10.
“The governor claimed that all migrants were run through the Massachusetts [Criminal Offender Record Information] system,” Fetherston said. “That was a blatant falsehood. She later said she directed her staff to do so but produced no documentation to prove it, and no one on her staff was held accountable. Moreover, running migrants through the CORI system only reveals crimes committed in Massachusetts, rendering it nearly useless for individuals arriving from other countries. This was simply more gaslighting from the governor.”
As Liberty Nation documented in 2024, numerous children were put at risk of sexual assault via the Massachusetts migrant shelter system. One sickening example: a 15-year-old developmentally disabled girl was reportedly raped by a Haitian migrant at a Comfort Inn that was transformed into a shelter.
“Everybody, including him, who enters our shelter locations is vetted,” Healey declared in response to the incident. Fetherston’s assertions strongly suggest that inaction by Healey’s migrant shelter overseers is not just a matter of incompetence but quite possibly criminal negligence.
Then there are those financial questions. We are dealing with monumental costs that totaled more than $1 billion annually for multiple years. Where did all that money go?
Fetherston “stated that he witnessed vendors bill for services never rendered and government contracts awarded without proper oversight,” The Blaze reported. “Fetherston also pointed out that shelter staff would clock in for work and then leave. They used the hotel’s rooms for personal purposes, booked personal rideshare services through the shelter’s account, brought their laundry for the shelter’s vendors to handle, and even advised migrants on how to manipulate the immigration system.”
“The system is bloated with bureaucracy and lacks meaningful financial accountability,” he told the news site.
All politics is local, the old saying goes, and when it comes to government contracts at the state level, no truer words have ever been spoken. Massachusetts taxpayers should demand a financial accounting of those who received the lush government contracts handed out like lollipops at a bank to feed the migrant shelter machine, as well as any possible connections to donations to Healey’s campaigns for governor or those of other related Democrat officials.
Lucrative expedited no-bid contracts were a regular facet of the shelter program.
Connected Players Make It in Massachusetts
Healey’s programs “failed to adequately assess and act upon the increased demand for shelter services, resulting in improper and unlawful no-bid emergency procurements for food and transportation services,” a May report by the Massachusetts state auditor concluded. The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) “bypassed established procurement procedures, resulting in a lack of fairness via competitive bidding and a lack of transparency and accountability in the contracting process,” the report found.
A million here and a million there, and eventually you are talking about real money, even in the Big Government Bay State.
Just as with the criminal background checks, the Healey administration simply did not provide basic substantiation of these contracts. “The audit notes there was missing evidence and insufficient documentation to support EOHLC’s decision to enter into a no-bid contract with Spinelli Ravioli Manufacturing Company, Inc.,” the auditor’s office stated. “(Spinelli) and EOHLC did not consider an opportunity to accept a flat rate with Spinelli for food delivery services. EOHLC failed to provide adequate oversight of its delivery contract with Spinelli, resulting in overpayments on 9.6% of deliveries. Overcharges resulted in EOHLC paying more than the contracted rates for delivery services.”
A nice deal for Spinelli indeed.
“The East Boston-based company was paid about $9.4 million to prepare and deliver meals to families in 30 hotels and motels used as temporary emergency shelters,” WBUR radio in Boston related.
Guess who was a campaign donor to Maura Healey? “Spinelli’s owner Rita Roberto has been an active political donor, and she and other company executives have given $7,550 to Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll since 2019,” The Boston Globe reported in April 2024.
You see how it can work? Then ponder that this is just one contract, one drop in a billion-dollar-per-year ocean that spanned a good chunk of the first half of the 2020s.
“Taxpayers have every right to demand transparency and results,” Fetherston told The Blaze. “That begins with full independent audits, strong whistleblower protections, thorough investigations, and a comprehensive overhaul of procurement and oversight processes. Until these reforms occur, public funds are wasted, and the families who rely on the system suffer the most.”
Decades from now, will there be any honest historians still around? If so, they will look back at this time and express amazement that so many individuals were so grievously harmed in so many ways in the name of a specious claim to “humanitarianism” on behalf of imported foreigners at the expense of American communities.
